Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy (Photobiomodulation) uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support cellular energy production, recovery, tissue repair, and overall health.

The effects of a single Red Light Therapy session can extend beyond the treatment itself. A typical session lasts approximately 10 minutes, and the biological effects on cellular function may continue for several days afterward, often lasting around 5–7 days. For most individuals, we recommend 1–3 sessions per week, depending on their goals and circumstances.  The ideal treatment schedule may vary depending on whether Red Light Therapy is being used for general wellness, exercise recovery, injury rehabilitation, surgical recovery, or a specific health concern. Our team can help determine the most appropriate treatment plan based on your individual needs

Happy Senior Couple

Most people feel completely normal after a Red Light Therapy session and can immediately return to their usual daily activities. The treatment is non-invasive, painless, and does not require any recovery time. Some individuals report feeling more relaxed or calm, a sense of improved wellbeing or energy, reduced muscle stiffness or soreness or temporary warmth in the treated area due to increased circulation Benefits are often subtle after a single session and may become more noticeable with regular treatments over time. For those using Red Light Therapy to support recovery, healing, or performance, multiple sessions are typically recommended as part of a broader treatment plan.

How Red Light Therapy Affects Mitochondria

Photon Absorption:

When red or near-infrared light penetrates the skin, it is absorbed by chromophores within the mitochondria.

Increased ATP Production:

The absorption of light by cytochrome c oxidase enhances the enzyme’s activity. This, in turn, increases the efficiency of the electron transport chain, leading to a higher production of ATP. More ATP means more energy for cellular functions, which can accelerate healing and regeneration processes.

Reduction of Oxidative Stress:

Red light therapy can also reduce oxidative stress within cells. By improving the efficiency of the electron transport chain, it reduces the leakage of electrons that can form harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS). Lower ROS levels mean less oxidative damage to cellular components.

Enhanced Cellular Signaling:

The increased ATP production and reduced oxidative stress improve cellular signaling. This can result in various beneficial outcomes, including reduced inflammation, enhanced tissue repair, and improved cell survival.

Increase NO:

The release of NO, a potent vasodilator, increase circulation, decrease inflammation and enhances the transport of oxygen and immune cells through tissue
